Seeley Hills Classic

The 2019 Seeley Hills Classic 22 and 42 kolometer races are scheduled for January 12th in an out-and-back format starting at 10 a.m. at Highway 00, Hayward (WI).

2019 Seeley Hills Classic

The Seeley Hills Classic is the second-largest annual classic cross-country ski event on the Birkebeiner Trail. The 42K race is sanctioned by the US Ski & Snowboard and is an American Birkebeiner qualifying race. The marathon race also connects some of the biggest cross-country ski events across the region, as the Seeley Hills Classic is the first of six races in the CXC Marathon Cup series.

The race serves as the major fundraiser for the Seeley Ski Club, allowing it to promote skiing in a number of ways. The club was responsible for lighting the Birkie Trail at the Highway 00 area, and has developed a new 15K Sawyer County Ski Trail in the Seeley area, which it maintains and grooms. The club has also purchased grooming and mowing equipment for use on those trails.

Race Categories

The races are scheduled for 22 and 42 kilometers in an out-and-back format. The event also stages a 5K high school race, which starts at 10:15 a.m. on the south side of Highway 00.

The Course

With the modifications to 00 the long race will start at 10:00 AM on the south side of 00 in the Korte Start area. Skiers will head south and then turn north on the skate trail crossing 00 on the new bridge.

The 22k race will start as always on the south side also in the Korte start area but at 10:15 am. Skiers in the short race head south on the classic trail to the turnaround and head back north to the finish.

Race Results

Event timing and race results will be provided by Superior Timing out of Marquette Michigan.
